Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Bob and Mike Anderson joined me yesterday morning for some redfish fishing on the flats.
It took all of about fifteen minutes to start landing redfish after we got there. We tossed Gulp shrimp at them and very few refused our offering. We also caught many ladyfish in the mix. Then we decided to go catch some big reds a little south of the woods but they seemed sluggish and we only caught one bigger fish. Then I suggested going to catch some trout with only one more day remaining in the season. We pulled up to one of my more productive trout spots and began casting Gulp jerk shads in the white color. Lots of mullet in the water so that is why I chose white. About five minutes later we started catching some smaller fish. Then we caught three that were heavy weights for the pan and we headed for the dock. I also had Kim (Cup Cake) Adams out this week for some redfish action on the same flat. She had never caught a redfish and I was soon to change that. One of many first for the day. She was astounded by how you can sight cast and catch the fish you are looking at. She caught several redfish then we went to a spot to catch some trout. That she did and I am sure she will come again.

Believe it or not there are still some tarpon around, I guess it's not cold enough to drive them south. We have small tarpon all year but I am talking large fish. Snook are thicker than I can remember, probably because we haven't had a freeze in quite a few years. We will be sure to catch a few this week. Trout season ends today so take note if you are planning to fish this aria. We fished Ponce inlet last weekend and big redfish are dominating the bite. You will also see ladyfish, jacks and bluefish crashing glass minnows and we caught about twenty of them in minutes. We tossed Gulp 3" pogy shape baits at them and it was mayhem. You will also catch a few flounder bouncing the same bait off the button on 1/4 oz jig heads. The weather is perfect and comfortable so if you are freezing your tail off up north cone down and catch some awesome fish. Think like a fish to catch fish, or just call me, I will guarantee you do.
