Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

The first half of this week most of us sat inside waiting for the tropical storm to pass by. As soon as it did, the weather was perfect and the fish were happy. The water level is about a foot higher than it usually is this time of year but, fortunately, we have not experienced the horrible algae bloom that was clouding our waters last summer.
Redfish are still eager to eat the DOA Baitbuster throughout the day. Work it on the surface just fast enough t keep it on top for some spectacular topwater bites.
Other lures that were working well this week were the DOA shrimp in watermelon holographic and the 4" CAL tails.
We were able to catch numerous seatrout on the shallow flats but had trouble locating the schools in the deeper water spots. Most of the trout came while casting to likely redfish areas. With the high water levels, there are very few areas that are too shallow to fish. High water gives the fish lots of places to roam and you may have to search a bit to find them some days. When you do, however, they should be eager to bite a variety of lures with well placed casts.
