Mosquito Lagoon and River Catching!

Capt. Joe Porcelli
August 10, 2016
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in the river and Mosquito lagoon has been off the charts the past few months. The trout bite has been going off using pigfish or jerk baits. Whether your bouncing them off the bottom or working them on the flats, there are been plenty of fish. We have been limiting out on trout and reds every trip for the past three months. When we are fishing structure for trout with pigfish we have been catching many other species like mangrove snapper, jacks, flounder, ladyfish and snook. Oh and if you pitch that pigfish at the many tarpon in the river you will be sure to hook one.
The redfish fishing has been great if you're in the right spot. The flats have been loaded with redfish and they have been tailing like crazy. Pitch a Gulp shrimp or jerk bait at them and you should hook up. If you don't feel like looking and pitching artificial bait on them you can put out some chunk baits like ladyfish or mullet. You will catch more catfish this way but if you want to chill out this works. Oh you can catch a huge trout chunking on occasion so don't be surprised when you do.
Remember, think like a fish to catch fish or just call me and I guarantee you will… 386-314-5656
