Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach, Ponce Inlet, and Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report November 2013
The month of October was a very busy for us at Spot N Tail Charters between charters and tournaments. We did manage to end the
season with a bang though taking 1st place at the NSBBT tournament out of New Smyrna Beach FL. the taking off to Houma LA
to fish the IFA Redfish Tour Championship and comng home with Team Of The Year for the FL east coast division. But with all
that said lets get down to business and see what the fish are doing here in our local waters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon.
With the month of November brings the begining of cold fronts which does intell for some windy days so pick your days
wisely. When the seas and winds lay down the larger breeder redfish can stil be found holding on the rocks of Ponce Inlet and
Cape Canaveral, I like to throw a live pinfish or mullet with a 1/2oz lead on the bottom. They can also be caught jigging the
bottom with artificail but just be prepared for hang ups there is alot of debri down there. With the changing of the wind direction
every couple of days the water level in Edgewater and Mosquito Lagoon is higher than usaual. I have been finding the the redfish
to be holding on the oyster bars and crusing the shorelines in the north lagoon where as they are holding over the sporadic grass
flats and pot holes in the south lagoon. I like to throw the Aqua Dream Living spoons and soft plastics along with live shrimp,
live finger mullet and cut bait. The trout bite has also been good through out Mosquito Lagoon look for the bait holding
over a mix of grass and pot holes and you will find the trout. I like to use jerk baits, topwater plugs and twitch baits but you can
never go wrong with a free lined finger mullet for that trout of a life time. The flounder have also started to move into New Smyrna Beach
and Edgewater, you can target them with a 1/16oz and 1/8oz jig head rigged with soft plastic or live shrimp bounced slowly along
the bottom.
