World Record black drum and more

Capt. Joe Porcelli

Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

So many fish so little time on the central Florida East Coast. We have been splitting our time fishing the cobia on the rays and the Mosquito lagoon. The weather predicts when you can get outside but if it is nice and the rays with cobia are thick it can be a blast.
I scouted yesterday and we caught a large triple tail that was free swimming while we were out side but he rays had no cobia on them. Well the run lasted just long enough to get through the transition period in the lagoon.

In the lagoon the reds have mover up and spread out a little since the water level has come up. This red was taken on a top water plug.

But the black drum have been singing my favorite song, Fireline Through Grass, by The Drag. Trout are in full swing we have been taking a few slobs the past few weeks. Only keep what you need because they are full of roe and we do want our grandkids to catch fish. Ladyfish, jack, bluefish and flounder will be some of the other critters you will catch jigging for trout. I toss a 1/8-1/4 oz jig dressed with a Gulp shrimp. Bring a few colors and bounce it off the bottom or popping cork rig it. I like new penny, bloody and chartreuse. Color does make a difference I see it everyday. I put a different color on every angler's rod and then switch to the one that is producing the best results. Congratulations to Heather Harkavy for breaking the Jr. woman's world record while fishing with me. Remember! Think like a fish to catch fish or just call 386 314 5656
