Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
Wow what a pretty day it was yesterday, it got a little breezy towards the end of the day but the fish didn't mind. I had Chris Cofland and his two sons Erin and Evan on the Mosquito Lagoon. The morning started off a little slow but I chose the toughest school to fish knowing it would only get better. We watched about one hundred and fifty redfish swim over our live shrimp for about an hour then we had enough. The next school we fished was just the opposite of the first. They fed every time we got a good shot at them. We caught reds in that school up to 34'' long. The boys wanted to go try for a giant red but they would not play fair. Chris had such a good time yesterday he came back for some more action today and he brought a neighbor friend Ben. They lost count of how many fish they caught somewhere over twenty. From the tailing fish to dances with rods these past few days will not be forgotten for some time. Many of the fish were over slot fish. The fish were so happy today that I felt as if it were a day off. The trout bite was good a few weeks ago and I really have not targeted them since. They have been in the sand holes and on the cold days over the mud. Free line a finger mullet and wait for the bite or better yet toss a top water plug. The water is so so low in the lagoon now there are places I can't even go. Lots of people on the water and a lot less play aria so try to be a little more understanding.
Last week I took my brother fishing out of Ponce to look for cobia but the sun would not come out and we had no viz. I went to the closest bridge material and we started making drifts over the structure. We caught sheepshead, three flounder, two mackerel, five big grunt, twelve lane snappers, three red snappers, one hammer head about six foot, two small grouper, one 28" redfish and twenty other small reef fish.
