Mosquito Lagoon & North Indian River Lagoon

Capt. Chris Myers
February 19, 2007
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

The past week brought some high winds and frigid temperatures to east central Florida. Prior to the arrival of the cold front, we had a few days with some quality fish in the Mosquito Lagoon.

Bob from Connecticut fished with me on a cloudy and rainy day which made spotting the fish difficult but not impossible. Bob connected with a quality redfish and to nice black drum.

The following day, Ken, from Michigan, tried for several hours to fool a school of large redfish into biting but they were not in the mood. We moved to another spot and Ken landed his first fish of 2007.

The next couple days brought us some gale force winds followed by a few nights of freezing weather. The temperatures are forecast to climb throughout the week reaching the 80's by the weekend. This warming trend will bring the fish onto the flats in good numbers and should result in an excellent week of sight fishing. Big seatrout and redfish will by flooding the shallow sand holes seeking warmth and food. A well placed soft plastic will fool these fish.
