Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

The redfish action continues to be steady in the Mosquito Lagoon. There are schools of 20-200 fish as well as singles cruising the flats and dropoffs. Many of the fish are in extremely shallow water targeting small mud crabs and shrimp. A well placed soft plastic crab will seldom go ignored.
Although there are some good sized schools, the fish have been very wary due to the high volume of fishing pressure. A silent approach is crucial as well as the accuracy of your cast. No matter what bait or lure you are using, if it lands near the fish in shallow water, they will swim off leaving you with only a cloud of mud. Cast your bait well past the fish and bring it back in front of its path,
When the weather has cooperated, we have had some excellent days of catching in the past few weeks. Black drum, redfish, and trout have all come to the boat.
Our waters have warmed significantly in the past couple weeks and the fish are actively feeding. They are still targeting small baits. For the fly anglers, a small crab or bendback pattern will take fish.
