Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week, we had some great weather and plenty of fish in the Mosquito Lagoon. We saw multiple schools of both redfish and black drum during the last three days. Many of the redfish schools are in extremely shallow water and are easily spooked. These fish may only allow you one or two shots at them before the get out of range. An accurate cast with a soft plastic like a 4" DOA CAL placed in front of the school has worked well. If your first cast lands too close to the school, they will swim off at high speed and are tough to catch up to. Practice your casting before you get on the water and it will pay off when you find the fish.

The black drum have been finicky this week but we did hook up with a few fish over 20 pounds on both chunks of crab and ladyfish.

More and more mullet are returning to the Lagoon each day and the trout will be following the mullet. It's time to get out the DOA Deadly Combo and work it around the mullet schools in 2-3 feet of water for some great action with seatrout.

Big redfish are a possibility if the winds are manageable and the sun is out. Jennifer from Kansas landed a monster red yesterday on a beautiful spring morning.
