Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in the Indian Rivers north end has been productive around the north and south jetty. Mangrove snapper are still in abundance around the rocks. Be prepared to do a lot of rigging. Finger mullet seem to be the bait of choice for the bigger snapper. Pilchards work well but the smaller snapper seem to grab them too often. While your out at the jetty toss out a large mullet and place it in the rod holder and forget about it. Sooner or later you will have one of many species that roam the rocks. Tarpon, snook, kingfish, sharks and jacks are some of the species you may encounter.
The channel leading to the jetty is also productive this time of year. Flounder should start moving in and can be taken on finger mullet or 12 Fathom shad bodies. The mangrove snapper line the channel edges as well. Redfish are in the channel and can be taken on mullet fished on the sandy bottom.
The Mosquito Lagoon is starting to show a little relief from the summer crowd due to hunting season opening. There are still quite a few boats out there but I can see the relief. The reds are not as schooled up as they were a few weeks ago but there is still a lot of single targets to cast to. The trout are up on the flats as well; we took trout up to five pounds this week on mullet.
Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
