Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing has been good until the wind put a little curve in our sail. Prior to these last two days we were catching many black drum and reds in the Mosquito Lagoon. The blacks are eating shrimp and small pieces of mullet. While fishing for the drums yesterday we caught six trout and a couple of ladyfish to change the action. We also saw some tarpon but did not hook up.
If you plan a trip to the jetties you should encounter some nice mangrove snapper by the rocks. Use small finger mullet for the bigger snaps. The tarpon are still along the rocks rolling and crashing an occasional mullet. Some mackerel have moved in this week and can be taken on small spoons.
The jacks are crashing the same baits with the macs so be prepared to catch a couple of them. Sharks are still thick at the inlet and will eat your snook or jack in mid fight (don’t be surprised).
The flounder should make their appearance this month some time in good numbers. I think all this wind and big seas will move them in. Use a finger mullet along the sandy bottom around the inlet and be patient. This week we saw a flounder clear the water by two feet chasing bait, I did not say anything to my clients until they turned at me and said was that a flounder? I have taken flounder on a topwater plug but this was a first.
Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
