Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Just before the wind started to blow again we had some good fishing and nice weather. It looks like it will be a little calmer wind towards the end of this week. We fished today and caught some nice reds up on the flats. They are eating the 12 Fathom jigs, with the right presentation of course. They will not go too far out of their way to chase bait, due to all the bait in the water. The trout on the flats are eating the mean green slam’Rs worked with a quick twitch. They are also eating the gold tiger 4’’ shad by 12 Fathom.
Gary Duke fished with me last week and besides catching trout and reds he also caught his first tarpon. The tarpon will not be around very much longer with the way the temperature dropped this week. That also goes for the snook, you better get out and fish them while you can. A few mangrove snapper are still around the channel edges by rock bottom. The mackerel are showing up at the jetties and can be taken on small silver spoons.
Jacks and ladyfish are still thick along the ICW chasing finger mullet and pilchards. The north and south bridge are always holding a couple of these scrappers. Fish light tackle and a jig and you will have a ball. That is if you have appreciation for these fish. If you want a bend in the rod and you are not worried about table fair these two fish make a good combo. One jumps and one pulls hard, they can be a day saver.
Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
