Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in the Mosquito Lagoon has been very good this week. The water temperatour dropped and the fish have gone into the lethargic state. You can pole up on a red and drop a bait right in front of them. It is better if you see them in advance and take your shot, but if they are in front of you drop one on them. We have been pitching shrimp at them in this case but for the longer shots I prefer plastics.
Speaking of plastics this is the time of year I take a 1/8th or ¼ oz jig and bounce it in the deeper holes. I use the 12-Fathom shad in the 3’’ size when I fish these holes. The reason I use the smaller bait is a lot of smaller fish frequent these holes. There are good size fish in them but you get a lot less action with the larger baits. The holes are usually about three to five feet deep and the best ones I have found are near the grass flats.
The fishing in the Indian River is producing some nice flounder on jigs and finger mullet. The sheepshead are chewing small crabs and shrimp around the docks and bridges. We fished for snook for an hour the other morning and caught three and lost a few more. I like fishing the prime times for these line siders; the action slows after the tide starts running hard.
Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
