Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
November 30, 2000
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fish have been as thick as the shoppers at the mall this week, have not been to the mall but I heard it’s a frenzy. That is why I would suggest sending your wife out to shop and you get on the water. Lets see the past three days went as such, yesterday in two hours we caught nine trout and five reds to thirty inches. The day before I had Gary and Jeff Ringer out and they caught sixteen reds to thirty-three inches three trout to twenty-four inches and a flounder that was well over six pounds. Turkey morning my brother and I slipped out before the feast and fished for two hours and boater thirty-four fish (reds and trout) on 12 Fathom jigs, it doesn’t get much better than that.

Remember trout have to be put back this month as well as December in the Volusia county aria. We have been catching some gator trout as well, most of the fish we have caught this week have been on plastics especially the Slam’Rs in pumpkinseed.

The Indian River is giving up its share of flounder along the sandbanks and points. Here I would throw a three-inch shad body on a 1/8-oz jig head. Work your bait on the bottom and feel for the lightest tap on tour line. Flounder are not known for there slamming hits and drag pulling action. But they are known for there taste on the table. If you do not want to work that hard use a finger mullet and weight it on the sandy bottom.

Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
