Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

What a day on the water we had today. There is not a better way to spend Christmas with your family on the water. We all couldn’t fit on my flats boat but a few select family members joined me. We set out to throw 12 Fathom plastics in the deeper holes and caught small reds, small trout and some larger trout mixed in the catch. The total number was around ninety when we last tried to keep up with the count. We had at least seven triple-headers (three anglers hooked up at once) and uncountable doubles.
It was strange in the Lagoon today in one aria the pumpkinseed color would work well and not far away the pearl would work best. We just kept changing colors all day.
A few days before we caught some trout over five pounds on shrimp hooked in the tail. They were in a white patch on the flats in the south end of the lagoon. We have been catching a lot of gators that we have been releasing to fight another day.
The river is giving up a lot of flounder these past few weeks. We took flounder on the flats as well up to five pounds. They will eat all types of baits including plastics and plugs. I have seen flounder leap out of the water to crash a bait, (but not too often). The jetties at Ponce inlet have been giving up a few flounder as well, along with black drum and sheepshead.
Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
