Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well we finished our last few trips to the lagoon with a bang catching twenty-five fish, ten reds to twenty-seven inches and fifteen trout. The day before we took many trout including three gators to seven plus pounds and some respectable reds. Trout season opens in our region on the first with the Volusia county line being the north boundary. The trout fishing has been awesome these past few weeks we have caught and released many gators.
Plastics like the slam’R by twelve fathom it is one of my favorites pumpkinseed and meangreen are the colors of choice. If you want to catch finger mullet and live bait fish you can take some good fish this way, but you must be patient. The fish are moving a lot slower these days with the water temperatour spiraling downward after the last few cold nights. You should fish a little deeper where the fish are seeking warmth.
At Ponce Inlet you should be able to find some mackerel showing up between the jetties and a little beyond. Troll small spoons at a good clip and you will know in a few minutes whether they are there or not. The rocks are also holding some sheepshead and black drum. Shrimp should do the trick for ether species and a few others to boot like flounder and pompano. Happy New Year and be safe and nice.
Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish >)))>
