Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
The fishing was as good as it gets in the lagoon today, the reds were bunched up in good size schools. They were also eager to eat our baits that were placed in the general proximity of the hundred or so fish we were on. The reds were moving slow across the sandy bottom making them easy targets to throw bait at. You will see most of your fish in these sandy depressions cerounded by grass.
The trout can be found up on the flats in the same aria as the reds. The trout are a little less aggressive than the reds, so work a trout infested aria a little slower to insure a hook up. For this cold water we are experiencing now a finger mullet will do the trick. Let him do the work for you toss him out in front of your drift and be patient.
The deeper water is holding some nice drumfish with a mixed bag of other creatures like, pompano, snook, trout, mangrove snapper and a flounder or two. We have been tossing a lot of 12 Fathom jigs in the deeper water around five to eight feet. Most of the fish we are taking here are the smaller sized reds and trout. Any plastic with a fleck in it will do the trick, but pumpkinseed and meangreen are the exceptions.
Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
