Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
February 28, 2001
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

I set out this morning and cut through the fog knowing it would be a cake walk type of a day. The wind was calm and you could see the fish move with ease. I placed my clients on the bow of my Day-5 tunnel Hull and eased them up to the school of reds that numbered around a hundred or so. I pointed out tails that were waving in the orange sunrise as the school worked the edge of the flat. Two perfect cast and we had the double on to start our day, twenty-five fish later we released the last double of the day, talk about perfect.

Not all days are like this but we have more days like this than not. We have been catching our share of trout also on the Mosquito Lagoon flats. The reds and trout will be happy to eat your 12Fathom shads and Slam’Rs, but the majority of the fish came from shrimp this week.

The New Smyrna aria has not been producing any significant catches and should pick up soon. The fishing has been slow from what I here for a month. The shrimping has been good all week dippers have been getting their limit at River Breeze Park in Oak Hill. Call Kelly’s for the latest report on the shrimp. 904 345 0990

Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
