Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
March 8, 2001
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well it was nice out in the Mosquito lagoon until the wind started to blow. The reds were on the flats and eating heavily until the front reached us. Once the front was here the fish shut down and so did the catching, that is what I heard because I would not fish in thirty mile an hour wind. After the next few days the fishing should be back to normal. Before the front we were taking reds and trout on slam’Rs and shad bodies. The trout we caught on the last day of fishing this week were all keeper size even though we did not keep any.

The reds were chewing along side the trout eating the same baits. The reds were in the one to two foot of water and were a lot calmer when we got a little wind. Just remember that every day is different and the fish you fished yesterday may not have the same attitude today.

The small blue fish are at Ponce Inlet along with a black drum or two. They can be taken on jigs or finger mullet cut or alive. The snook should start to take off in the next few weeks, there have been some good catches in Tamoka aria and some of the other deeper cuts and passes. Shrimp and finger mullet are a good choice for bait. There are a few flounder being caught and the bait of choice for me is a four inch 12 Fathom shad white with a black back.

Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
