Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
July 13, 2001
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in the Mosquito Lagoon has been good this week for reds and trout with some ladyfish and jacks on the side. Today John sr. and John Gilbert took eight trout to four pounds and seven reds. They also caught some very large ladyfish that smoked the line off the reel. I have never caught ladyfish this large before.

Tony Rodregas came out for a half-day trip and landed fourteen reds and six trout. The reds were taken on finger mullet and 12 Fathom jigs. The wind has been out of the west this week changing the pattern of the fish, so we have to change.

Kenny and Terri Birch from New York were down for a half-day trip and they caught fourteen reds to thirty-one inches and ten trout. The bite came late in the morning and when it did the fish went nuts. Most of the fish were taken on finger mullet and pigfish. I have seen a few tarpon in the lagoon but have not had time to fish for them. The fishing should be the same for the rest of the summer.
