Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
In the Mosquito lagoon the reds are still bunched up but are real spooky. Make sure you try to approach them with stealth like fashion. When you get on a school do not push them for this will only drive the fish out of their pattern. Instead you can stand off just in casting range and get plenty of shots. The reds are eating top water plugs in the am. They are also eager to eat a shrimp and finger mullet. The bigger the bait the further you have to lead the fish.
The trout are still in the lagoon eating 12 Fathom slam’Rs in pumpkinseed bounced off the bottom with a 1/8 or ¼ oz. Jig head. I like using Stren Power Lokt micro fiber line that makes a bite real evident. This time of year the fish will spit the bait if they feel your pressure from your pull. The trout can be found around the Tiger Shoal aria as well as the west clinkers. You should also encounter ladyfish and jacks in the same aria as the trout.
The Indian Rivers north end is producing some nice mangrove snapper along the channel edges. The tarpon are also a good target this time of year. Tarpon can be found in the Lagoon around the clinkers and south Tiger.
Throw finger mullet or plugs at these fish and hang on.
