Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
January 19, 2002
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

I have been on the water so much this week I have had little time to type about all the fish we have been catching. Todd Ulrich fished a morning with us and caught thirty five trout and six redfish. We took most of our fish on 12 Fathom slam'Rs and XtractRs. The trout are stacked in the deeper holes as well as on the flats. Most of the fish that are in the deeper holes are on the smaller size while the gator size trout are on the flats.

Mark Daniel and I set out for a four hour trip and counted our catch to over a hundred fish. Most of the fish were small trout but we caught trout to seven pounds and had two larger ones boat side that were much heavier. We also caught redfish over the slot size as well as many in the slot. We took all our fish on 12 Fathom slam'Rs in pumpkinseed color. We were using a quarter ounce jig head to fish the deeper holes along the flats.

The reds are schooled up tight now and can be found tailing on the calmer days. Fishing in front of the fronts has been awesome this week, fish the day before and watch the tails come up. Sheepshead have been out at the rocks at Ponce Inlet in the oyster mounds. Black drum can also be taken in the same aria. Use small crabs or shrimp for best results.

Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
