Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

The trout have been feeding well on pigfish and mullet and we have been taking several gators in the mix with a lot of slot size fish. Fish the flats drop offs and the clinker islands. I like fishing the clinkers when the tide is moving. Watch out for those manatees around the clinkers. They travel between the clinkers and the channel in a north and south pattern. Some nice size trout have been coming farther south in the lagoon by the whale tail and it’s surroundings. Finger mullet and pigs are still the bait of choice. That will all end soon, because the pigfish are getting larger and soon they will be to big for a trout bait.
The reds are plentiful on the flats with some oversize fish are here and there. Mullet are working well but my bait of choice is still the pumpkinseed Slam’R by 12 Fathom. The channel is still holding plenty of jack and ladyfish action and they are also being caught on 12 Fathom plastics. Fish the plastic shad body at a quick retrieve to induce a strike. I like using a quarter ounce jig head when I fish for them. Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
