Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
Fishing in the Mosquito Lagoon has been up and down due to the storms that have brought erratic whether patterns. One day it will be calm and you can see the reds cruising the flats from a block away and the next day it will be blowing. The tides have been extremely high making sight casting on the high a little more difficult. The wind has been good for surfing though. The reds are still on the flats but it is allot harder to spot them. When you do see them you need to make a perfect cast in order to assure a hook up. The bait is thick in the lagoon giving the fish plenty to eat with little effort. That is why a perfect cast is a must. The fish are not going out of there way chasing down bait or even moving around looking for it. All the fish we caught last week were stuffed to there gills. We did take some trout on the flats on 12 Fathom shad bodies this week as well as flounder and mangrove snapper.
The snapper and flounder were around the clinkers closer to the channel. Bounce your jig off the bottom and work it slow. Pearl with a black back or my favorite pumpkinseed are the colors I like. Ladyfish and jacks are still in the lagoon and are eating the plastics as well. You will see the showering finger mullet when they are crashing baits.
