Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

The lagoon has been nice and quiet since hunting season has started. I like this time of the year because of that reason. I have not been fishing as much as I would like to be but I have traveling north myself looking for some game. The reds are still up on the flats eating lots of finger mullet and small poppers. Poppers are a local name for these shrimp like cru stations that roam the Mosquito Lagoon flats. I do not know if this is the real name for them or not but that is what the locals call them. They look like a fresh water crawdad but they have a claw. I like throwing something that resemble them when I am working the flats. The 12 Fathom crab looks allot like them and is a good choice when tossing plastics in the sand holes. The trout are still taking the 12 Fathom shad bodies pretty good but I like the pumpkinseed Slam’R better than the shad. The shad is a little more user friendly, all you have to do is cast and retrieve.
Trout are also being caught on the same baits in the deeper water around the Clinker islands. Work them slow; work them slow, am I making that clear enough. We have been blessed with nice weather for the past two weeks and when that happens the phone starts to ring and that is a good thing.
Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
