Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
This week proved to be another good week for catching. The weather has also been pleasant with temperatures ranging from sixty in the morning and the afternoon’s highs were around eighty. Today it dropped to fifty-five and the high will be about seventy degrees. The reds in the Mosquito lagoon have been working the massive finger mullet schools on the flats. That is the bait of choice as well. Fred Bergert and Jim joined me for a half day yesterday and took eight reds to thirty inches and three trout. The trout were nice fish with the biggest being about seven pounds. They as well fell for the finger mullet.
Jacks and ladyfish are out in a little deeper water feeding on the same. Black drum can be caught around the bridges and docks along with some mangrove snapper in the mix. The drum can be caught on shrimp and small crabs. With a few more cold snaps you should see some sheepshead showing up in good numbers. Crabs are the best bait to take the jailbirds. A few tarpon can be seen rolling at the inlet at the north end of the Indian River and can be tempted with a medium size mullet free lined around the rocks. You can also catch reds in good numbers around the rocks this month. Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
