Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
December 20, 2002
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

The most sought after fish in the lagoon the remainder of the month will be redfish. Due to the closed season of trout and snook. Trout are abundant though and can be taken on plastics and shrimp. I like using plastics for the trout and the other species that will rome the lagoon this time of the year. Flounder are one of the species that you might catch but most of them have past and made their way towards the inlet. The flounder run was in full force a few weeks ago when the weather was not cooperative.

Redfish are still roaming the flats looking for anything not moving to fast. They have plenty of food on the flats that have been keeping them fat and happy. I like fishing mullet chunks this time of the year because a chunk of mullet will not move and it puts out a very distinct sent. The redfish will draw to it and usually not resist the east weal. The winds were gusting today and the rest of the weekend will be clear and cool with calm winds that should be good for fishing. Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
