Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
January 3, 2003
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Wow fishing has gone of the charts lately with catches of thirty to fifty fish are not that uncommon. Joelle Miller her dad and her two sons joined me for a half day on the water and what a day it was. I explained the morning would be a little slow then when the sun got a little higher the fish would turn on. Turn on they did with double and a few triple hook ups on redfish, it got crazy at times. I call this dances with rods since the fish were circling the boat and one fish passing under the other and all you can do is follow your fish. We took a few reds under size and a few over the slot size but most of them were with in the slot. They ended up with thirty-five reds and two trout, all were released.

My nephews were down for the holidays and we fished one morning and took fifty-three fish all on 12 Fathom plastics. I like to fish plastics for reds and trout this time of the year they produce a lot of fish. Today four trout were caught and the smallest one was two and a half pounds and the largest was five pounds. We also took several reds up to twenty-seven inches. Most of the fish were sight casted too even in the twenty-mile per hour wind out there today. The trout are eating the 12 Fathom slam’Rs like candy and the mean green color is working the best. I rig mine with a plain hook in the nose and twitch it like a wounded fish. The water has been extremely low lately so go slow if you don’t know. Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
