Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week the fishing in the lagoon has improved a little due to the wind calming a little. Last week the fishing was tough due to low waters and fronts moving through. Bob Henry joined Jeff and Gary Ringer on my boat at the beginning of the week for a half-day. They caught twenty plus reds to thirty inches and fourteen trout to five pounds. The fish have been schooled up and they are spooky when the wind stops. I like a five to ten mph wind to muffle sounds and deck noise. We have been casting slam’Rs and xtrect’R on plain hooks. A few days after this trip we took almost a carbon copy of the catch. The water is super clear this time of the year and I suggest dropping your line test so you do not spook fish.
Some trout have been schooled up in the white sand patches and they are best taken on the pumpkinseed colored slam’Rs. I took four gators on a pre-fishing trip just messing around. I have been finding that the plastics have been taking more fish that the shrimp, but sometimes it is hard to convince a client that has a mind set. The biggest problem in the lagoon is that the water has dropped to record lows and it is difficult for most to navigate. I suggest going slow if you do not know. Be safe.
