Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
April 15, 2003
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Wow what a week it has been, the fishing is wide open. The weather blew for a few days but other than that it has been picture perfect. Chris Cofland and his sons Evan and Aaron joined me for a half day and caught reds till their arms heart. The next day I had Chris and his friend for a half day and they caught fourteen reds and three trout. The reds we caught were tailing all morning and then the wind picked up a little. We caught the fish on shrimp and plastics in about 18’’ of water. Set your drift so you can go down wind to the fish so your hull does not slap. Make long cast to the fish and give them a big lead. Pumpkinseed slam’Rs are my favorite plastic to use in the lagoon. Charlie and son Charlie jr eleven yr. old joined me for a half day and took twenty-five reds to 31’’. I gave Charlie jr a tube of ben gay when they left the dock for his sore arms. He did great on those fish, nothing like seeing a kid’s face light up catching a huge fish. The photos will bring back memories for years to come.

Jacks trout and ladyfish are lining the clinker islands edges near the inter coastal. We tossed 12 Fathom slam’Rs on one quarter ounce jigs bouncing them off the bottom. If you want to catch some nice fish and have a good time give me a call I will put you on them.
