Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli

Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Sorry I have not posted lately but I have been out of town. The week has been a good one with reds on the flats and other finned fish close to the channel. Reds have been sluggish to chase a plastic very far so we have been slowing the retrieve speed down a little. Most of our reds have been falling for the finger mullet we have been offering. We have been seeing some big trout on the flats for the past few days but have not taken any in our by catch. I guess if we soaked finger mullet in the rite place we would catch them but it has not been a priority. Jacks and ladyfish have been around the Clinker Islands and in the main channel.

The channel has also given us some big drum in the past few weeks with fish up to eighty pounds being close to the largest. The Sportsman channel will be featuring me in a TV show on big black drum on The Outdoor Sportsman. The show should be out in a week or so, the sportsman channel is free from your cable channel but you have to request it.

Big blue crabs have been the bait of choice for the big drum. Thirteen year old Courtney Gerkins fished with me to try to break the Junior Woman's world record and she got a fifty two pound fish and she needed a fifty- eight. Next time we will get them.
