Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
May 27, 2003
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

We have been taking a few ladyfish and some jacks when we fish closer to schools of mullet or near the channel. Reds have been tailing nicely in the early morning and on major feed. Approach them quietly and you will have good success but if you are noisy your chances go way down. The trout are on the flats in white holes and can be taken on pigfish and slam’Rs in the pearl color.

The north end of the Indian River has been producing good catches of ladyfish, trout and jacks along the intercostals waterway docks. Night fishing the dock lights is a good way to beat the heat on those windless summer days.

Edgewater and New Smyrna is a good place to start and you can go all the way through Daytona and work the dock lights.

Some of the better lights are north because less fishing pressure. The docks are giving up mangrove snapper as well as the rocks that line the river channel. Finger mullet and pilchards work best but shrimp will work well also but the small fish can some times be a pain in the bait and eat your shrimp as fast as you drop it. The weather has finally cleared for the year it looks like we can get on with our predictable summer days.

Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
