Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in the Lagoon can be hit or miss if low pressure rolls in. The first drop in the low will be good but after a low sets in it can slow things way down. We had to deal with that situation last week for a few days but I am glad to see it go. We still caught fish but the low brought us no banner days. Pat and Renee caught reds up to thirty inches on light tackle and pulled on a few ladyfish only a minute into the trip.
The reds have been schooled up on a few of the flats due to the unusual low water. Some of the flats look like your yard from a distance; grass is exposed in arias that are almost always covered by water. The reds are eating finger mullet, shrimp and my favorite plastics such as the slam’Rs. Pumpkin is usually my go to bait but lately I have been spanking them with the pearl color slam’R. The trout have been happy to take them as well, yesterday we took trout to five pounds on them. Work the sandy patches along many of the well-known flats and you should find success.
