Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
July 25, 2003
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in the lagoon has been good for trout on the edges of the flats and the white holes. The bait of choice for the live bait fisherman has been pig fish. I like plastics myself but the numbers are taken on pigs. Trout will also hit top water plugs as well but if you have a lot of floating weed around you will spend to much time cleaning hooks.

The reds have been bunched up in good numbers as well. The water has been extremely low and the reds are pushed off the flats. Finger mullet and chunks work well and will usually get you a hook up. Jeff and son Hunter along withTony Bonnie took some huge reds fishing with me a few days ago. Tony took the largest that day weighing 34# at 48 inches long. We caught them on mullet hooked from the top. These big reds are smart and you must have patience to catch them. You can find some tarpon in the channel as well as Haulover canal ant the lagoon. They will eat a mullet free lined.
