Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
In the Mosquito Lagoon this week it has been a weather roller coaster. One day it is perfectly glassy and the next day a storm moves in and the weather goes south. But in between the fronts the fishing can be good when the barometer is rising or at the beginning of the fall. Most of our fishing has been with 12 Fathom slam’Rs in pearl and shad bodies in a tiger pattern. We sight cast to most of the fish this week except when the wind started to blow and the clouds moved in. Then we would fan cast ahead of our drift. Keep your cast ahead of your drift so you are fishing undisturbed water. After you drift over a shallow flat the aria behind you will not yield fish.
I had Bill and Pat Griggs out for a morning and we had perfect fishing conditions. They tossed 12 Fathom plastics to reds all morning that were schooled up and tailing. They are seasoned anglers and their sight casting abilities paid off. It is important to be able to accurately cast at a fish that is on the cruse. It makes the difference between catching him or watching him swim. Some trout are up on the flats in the sandy spots and they will take the same plastics as the reds. We have also caught some ladyfish in the mix.
