Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Todd Ulrich brought the fish whistle and called them in catching twelve nice ones. Four reds five trout and three black drum made up the mix for the day. The weather has been so nice for the past few days after a rainy last weekend. This time of the year it can be hit or near miss with the fronts pushing through. I like it when the water temperature drops and the fish get a little lethargic.
It is so nice to pull up to a fish and toss a bait ten feet in front of the boat and watch them eat. Cindy and I were out a few days ago and pitched a finger mullet in front of a red and he took five pops at the bait before nailing it. The fish had to be only eight to ten feet in front of us. What I would do for a hat cam during moments like that. It is a good idea to place the bait on the far side of the fish when they are in close like this. This way the fish will turn away from you and is less apt to seeing you. Flounder, black drum and redfish were the species we caught this weekend. Reds have been finicky a few of the days we fished this week. Play your color game until you find one that works.
