Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well the weather has been yuck for the past week but it looks like we will see day light soon. The wind has been the biggest factor, this week we have had winds at fifteen to twenty plus every day. We toughed it out one day and caught a couple, the troopers and I saw a lot more fish than we caught. They were not moving much and when they did they would short strike your bait. By noon the Twenty-knot plus winds turned tiger shoal into a mud pit. That was one of those days when every fish we caught was appreciated more than usual. We took all of them on finger mullet but we had more strikes on the 12 Fathom slam’Rs in pumpkinseed color.
Being at dry dock for so long this week I went out my back yard and caught a snook and a jack. The water level is back up to the normal mark and should be here for a while. With the rise in the water the fish spread out and make the playing field a lot bigger. Sheepshead are still being caught around the many docks that line the intercostal between Port Orange and the New Smyrna bridges. Small crabs and shrimp should do the trick.
