Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in the Mosquito Lagoon has been for the most part good. I have talked to others that have had some non-productive days, but we have been real consistent on the catching end of the deal. A few days ago we pitched shrimp and 12 Fathom shad bodies in front of gator trout. Two of them jumped all over our offerings and raised their scales for a photo before we released these trout. One was about 7#s and the other about 8. Reds in the lagoon can be taken on the same baits on the same flat so keep a sharp eye and your safety off because your shots can come quick.
John Arnold brought his sons Rob, John and grand son Josh (7 yr old) for a Saturday Lagoon trip. Things were heated up within the first ten minutes when Josh took the first red fish that was 37’’ long. That fish was the largest for the day out of the twelve reds they caught. They also caught a flounder in the mix on a slow moving shrimp. I have been seeing at least two or three flounder a day swimming out of our drift. I like to bounce plastics off the bottom for my flounder pursuits. Large numbers of jacks can be seen crashing finger mullet in the aria called the mud. Here again I use the 12 Fathom shad bodies for this action. The water is still low so go slow if you don’t know.
