Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
Things in the Mosquito Lagoon were hot for ten days strait then they slowed a little. We managed to hook up five or so today but things did not explode like day’s prior. Pat Griggs and brother-in-law Joe joined me at the beginning of the week and the fish were eating the top water plugs up. They took seven reds and several of them were in the 40-inch class fish. They also took three really nice size trout that they released. Then Holly and Gene Cowart joined me the next day and we went for the instant replay from the day before. We slipped baits in front of the big reds for several hours only to get refused on every attempt. I decided to go hit slot reds in the shallows and Holly and dad Gene were busy as soon as we got on the spot. They ended up with nine reds one trout and a jack.
We have been tossing top dogs and soft plastics when we are on the hunt. But when we get up on the school we toss a shrimp or mullet at them and some times that is not even a sure thing. The water is in and out in a hurry these days depending on which way the wind is blowing. Don’t get your self stuck on a flat that the water is dumping off faster than you can poll. I have heard horror stories about anglers getting stuck in a hole. Some waited for days before the water came back in enough to float out. Catch em up!
