Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli

Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in the lagoon has been wet lately with a tropical wave sitting off the coast or down south. The fish have been chewing most days then they throw a wrench at ya. For the most part we have been tossing Gulp shrimp or Power baits at them. Every once in awhile we have to chuck mullet. I have been fishing the big fish most days and that requires time and persistence. Steve Snider and Milton caught many big reds on mullet but the fish were sluggish. We had our baits in them for five minutes and every once in a while one would pick it up.

Gary Ross and son John caught many slot reds before we went and caught some trout and a flounder. Speaking of trout we caught a thirty-inch fish on a gulp shrimp this week. He was tailing on a shallow flat and was sight casted too. We have had gators on the past three out of five trips. Tarpon seem to be rolling in good numbers this year. Fish them with live or dead mullet or blue crabs. Fish all the columns with a nice spread. Jacks and ladyfish will mix it up for you while you are waiting for the silver king. Toss Berkley PowerBait Jerk shads at them for the instant hook up. Work them fast for these speedsters. I have noticed an over abundance of manatees in the Lagoon so watch out for them.
