Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
March 4, 2006
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well what can I say about fishing in the Lagoon these days, it has been shallow. Even if you are running the most shallowest craft you still have to be careful on those below the bunk days. That is what I look for every A.M. before leaving the dock. If the water line is below the bunk on the lowest bunk at the dock I use, I have to pick and choose routes through the maze.

Just be careful.

Fishing has been off the charts one day and the next day they make you work for them. Yesterday was one of those days it started a little slow and then about noon we got quite a few bites in a short time. Bill and Pat Grigg fished with the Bud Man (Danny) yesterday. The wind was blowing pretty good out of the north then it turned around from the northeast. This is when the fishing picked up. I had Danny, Pat and Bill tossing three different colors till I found out what they were into that day. New penny Gulp Jerk Shad rigged nude was the bait they ordered. Flounder, trout and reds were all participants in the tackle test before they were released. If some one said you have to fish with one bait for the rest of your life and only that bait, I choose Gulp. If you have not tried it you are missing out. The trout have been in the white holes and you want to fish each one as if you know a fish is in it. A tell tail sign is a flash from a red fish scrapping parasites off. Toss a gulp a head and past your target and pull it back to them not to spook them. Drop your gulp down in the hole and twitch it a few times and hang on. Reds pull hard because of their wide tails and long rear dorsal fin. The reds are eating the new penny Gulp 3’’ shrimp more times than they will refuse it. Rig your gulp shrimp on a 1/8th jig head and bounce it off the bottom for a quicker trout bite but the size is generally smaller in the deeper water. This is my new email address, [email protected]

Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
