Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
November 28, 2006
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing has been good if you can be on the fish when they want to eat. Yesterday was one of those days when we had storms pushing through. I wanted to fish a spot on the north end of the lagoon but had to work around the storms. I usual fish the moon when in the lagoon unless I am at the north end where tide does play a roll. The trout bite was going good yesterday even though we weren't fishing for trout. They are still out of season. Reds were a little finicky yesterday in the morning but then they turned on later ion the day. We tossed Gulp shrimp to get them to eat and a lot of the time the trout would intersect. We took a very nice size flounder bouncing Power Bait shrimp in new penny color on the bottom. You will see a few black drum on the flats when searching for reds and you can toss a Gulp crab at them so be ready. The lagoon water level has been changing daily due to wind direction changes so note the water level before you decide to scream across your favorite flat.

When fishing the jetties at Ponce I fish the beginning of the out going tide or the last of the out, beginning of the incoming. But that depends on if I am fishing north or south jetty. Sheeps head and reds have been out on the rocks and you can catch quite a few if you are in the rite spot. You will take a drum or two as well while fishing the rocks. The weather has been blowing so fishing the rocks has been out of the question for the past few weeks.

Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish!
