Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Happy New Year

This week has been one of those hot and cold weeks one day the fishing is hot the next it is cold. That also goes for the weather as well. I think it is 80 + degrees out there, if we did not have the wind today it would have been a scorcher. Jaye and Greg Elliott joined me for two days of fishing one slow and the next day kicking bass. It was good they got to pull on a lot of fish before heading north for the rest of the winter. The trout and redfish have been up on the flats with a flounder scouring off every now and again. We tossed Gulp and PowerBaits at fish all day and about fifty % actually ate. Yesterday we tossed the same baits at over a hundred redfish and only got one bite in five or six presentations in two different schools. One day chartreuse works best the next day they are chewing gold. Just keep switching until the color of their (redfish) choice is chosen. Today I found a lot of redfish swimming with the mullet. Just flanking them but not really aggressive towards eating them. The best bite was the morning bite today; we put many fish in the boat in the first two hours. The reds have been tailing like crazy! The water dropped a few degrees last week sending crustations to the mud and the reds have been seeking them out. The tailing red can be a hard fish to catch if he has weed over his eyes. You have to drop your offering on his nose or wait for him to level out before you make your presentation.

We took trout to five pounds on the same baits as the reds. The water has been high for the last few days spreading the field and giving the anglers on the water more arias to fish. Think like a fish to catch fish! Or just call me 386-314-5656
