Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
Well the weather has been cold for the past week but it looks like we will see day light soon. The wind has been the biggest factor, this week we have had winds at fifteen to twenty plus every day except yesterday. Yesterday we did have ice on the deck of the boat before launch. It did not matter though I had Ray and Isabella Pampin out and they each caught many redfish up to forty-four inches. We watch schools of reds all day flashing, tailing, giving us the fin, etc. The reds are schooled up in good numbers and twenty plus fish days are common at this time. If you want to catch redfish the schools are thick now. One reason is half the flats in the lagoon have no water on them. Be extremely careful running the flats with the water level so super low.
We have also been taking our share of trout that are on the flats as well. Shrimp finger mullet and my favorite Gulp will get you a strike. I like casting the pumpkinseed and the chartreuse sinking minnow or turtleback worm way ahead of our drift. Do not drift past the white sand spots with out casting to them. These fish are hunkering down and waiting for something to go by to eat, so why not give it to them.
