Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
The trout bite was a little slow this week we caught a few each day but no gators. We chucked top water plugs early a few days this week and produced a few trout but we caught more reds on the surface. If you want to target trout this time of the year use pigfish for bait.
Ladyfish and jacks are pushing finger mullet schools through out the lagoon. Toss a Gulp pogy in pearl or a similar color and work it through the schools of bait. You might want to save one of those ladyfish to chunk if you are into that sort of thing.
Reds are tailing on the flats and are easily caught with a nice presentation. Toss a Gulp shrimp or crab in natural or molting color and you should hook up. If you have to use bait there is no shortage of it.
Coming up on this full moon we will have a slower daytime bite when the skies are clear. That is a good time to take advantage of the coolness of the night and target a few species that have a problem sleeping during the big moon. Snook can be caught around the bridges in the north Indian River on finger mullet and jigging on the bottom. You will see tarpon in the same location rolling in the shadows of the light at night. Ladyfish make a good offering to these silver kings but a mullet will work just as well. For guaranteed flats fishing trips call me at 386 314 5656
