Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

This has been a great week of fishing in the north Mosquito Lagoon for reds and trout. Water levels have been really low this week making a lot of the fishing grounds to shallow to fish. Thanks to My Day-5 tunnel hull I get where I need to go. Trout are both shallow and in the deeper waters (2 to 5’). We took trout in three feet of water on 12 Fathom shad bodies in the motor oil and smoked colors. Bounce your jig near the bottom and it shouldn’t take long to get a bite. The fish we have been taking in that depth are keepers and plus sizes, with a dink here and there.
The gators are in the skinniest of water with spotted backs and fins exposed. The perfect cast is a must when sight casting to these big trout. Plastics, finger mullet or top water plugs will all do the job. Reds are also thick in the lagoon, we have been taking many slot size as well as the giants daily.
The schools I have been putting my clients on house fifty too three hundred fish. We still see a lot of smaller schools around but a bigger target is sometimes better.
The lagoon is covered with finger mullet along the flats and islands. If they get in the open jacks, trout, ladyfish or a red may be on it’s tail. Cast around the schools with plastics and you should do good. The tarpon are starting to roll in through Ponce Inlet in search of all that bait.
Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
