Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
July 5, 2000
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Mosquito Lagoon is still providing plenty of trout and redfish action. We have been taking slot size reds on shrimp and finger mullet. We also have been taking our share of big reds up to 48’’ in a little deeper water.

Trout are eating pigfish and slam’Rs in pumpkinseed color. The jacks are also in the lagoon along with ladyfish and pompano. Look for the finger mullet schools and toss a bait where you see them shower. We also took some nice mangrove snapper along the edges of the channel. Fish your bait (shrimp or pinfish) on the bottom to take these toothy fish.

The tarpon are starting to roll a little more every day. Toss a live bait in front of them and hope for the best. Or kick back put the baits out and wait. This usually works if you are busy doing something else. The tarpon are also at Ponce Inlet and can be had on the outgoing tide.

Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
