Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Mosquito Lagoon is the place to be for the reds and trout on the flats. We through some top water plugs and took some trout and reds on them. We through Top Dogs and chug bugs in chartreuse and gold. Cast these plugs around the very large schools of finger mullet and work the showers from fish. Ladyfish and jacks will also be in the same proximity as the finger mullet schools.
Trout fishing has been hit or miss with the pigfish act. Anglers and other guides are saying the same; the bite is not as consistent as it has been in past years. Some nice fish can be had but you have to know where they are and be persistent and patient. Ron Muzzulin fished with me this week and took his first trout ever a six-pound gator; his next trout was five pounds moments later.
The north Indian River is giving up some some nice mangrove snapper along the channel rocks. The river is also giving up some nice snook (we caught a 10 and 13 pound last night) on finger mullet and pinfish. Tarpon is another likely candidate for a hook job, we gave a couple of piercing to a few silver kings last night. The first tarpon we had on gave us an aqua dance on the surface, and the next stripped line at will for about a minute. We feed these kings finger mullet on the outgoing tide.
Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
