Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
With the recent shift in winds, out of the south, the water levels in the Mosquito Lagoon have again begun to rise some. Even out here a difference in inches is a big one. However, this may not last long.
The weather patterns for this week are to be again winds out of the north. With this being said the fishing will go back to extreme shallow water fishing. What do I say about this: PERFECT!
The last several days the sight fishing on the Mosquito Lagoon has been off the wall to say. Numerous fish have been sighted and landed in very shallow waters. As always these fish should be approached with extreme caution. This time of year I personally do not use a trolling motor. The noise that they make is just not good for sight fishing in 10 inches of water. I will take the extra time and effort to approach these fish from a far distance. I will stop at least 500-700 feet from where it is I expect to even see, let alone catch, my first fish. It is so much like hunting, but on the water. You just don't drive straight up to your hunting spot do you? No, of course not.
If you use this tactic, you will be amazed at the amount of fish you will see and catch. Also with the trolling motor & Battery gone for the winter you get rid of a couple of hundred of pounds of unneeded weight. The results are so worth it.
The past week I have seen and caught some of the biggest trout too that have been seen in a while. MONSTERS! Trout are being caught using live shrimp or top water. The reds have all been upper slot or over and have been landed using either live blue crabs or live shrimp.
With the holidays approaching booking space is limited. So now is the time to call and book a fishing trip to remember for life time. Have a great holiday season and I will see you on the water.
