Abundance of Bait

Capt. Joey Benko
August 14, 2016
Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing around Naples has been challenging with the abundance of small baits everywhere. With lots of fresh water hitting the bays and passes from all the afternoon storms there is light at the end of the tunnel. Baits are finally getting bigger and redfish are starting to crush these pilchards on the higher stages of the tide.

Snook are still on the beaches and passes from Doctors Pass to Cape Romano. Look for Tarpon in the passes on the outgoing tides hitting big schools of mullet. On todays trip these advanced junior anglers managed to get it done catching redfish and snook.

Naples Fishing Forecast:

I look for things to really start shaping up with the cooler water temps and bigger baits look for the redfish to start moving in. Snook season will be opening Sept. 1 and there is a good chance the big ones will still be around.

Target Species:

Redfish, Snook, Tarpon, Jacks, Snapper, Trout
